CarShare Vermont is on a mission to help more Vermonters get around with fewer cars. Based in Burlington, CarShare Vermont provides a convenient, reliable, and affordable alternative to car ownership for its 1,000+ members. CarShare Vermont has 26 self-accessible, neighborhood-based vehicle locations throughout Burlington.

Thanks to car sharing, 86% of members shed at least one vehicle after joining. Members have significantly reduced how much they drive each year. In fact, for every one CarShare Vermont vehicle put into service, 15 privately owned cars are removed from service.

The fleet includes six plug-in electric vehicles. Each one has a name. Sparky, a Nissan Leaf, can be reserved for as little as 30 minutes or for multiple days using CarShare Vermont’s free mobile app. Sparky and his friends Florence, Mo, Usain, Luna, and Fabio can be driven anywhere in the U.S. or Canada. When members have a reservation, they simply walk up to the vehicle, unlock the car using their own electronic key fob, get in, and go. Then they park the vehicle back in the same spot when the trip is over. CarShare Vermont's hourly or daily rates include charging fees, insurance, and 24/7 roadside assistance.

CarShare Vermont is helping Burlington make strides toward its ambitious climate goals. It's also providing locals — including those who might not want to buy an EV or who cannot afford to buy a car of any kind — the opportunity to enjoy the environmental benefits of EV technology. And, since the shared EVs are powered by 100% renewable energy, the environmental benefits are even further amplified.
